Spiritual Health and Wellness Consultations

The purpose of a consultation is to advise, provide education, support and guidance for clients journeying on their religious and spiritual paths. In today's stressful world, it's very important to be more than just physically healthy. In fact, Spirituality plays a crucial role in health and wellness. Someone who is spiritually well has a strong connection with people (all races and ethnic backgrounds), places (the environment) and things (animals, plants and nature) on all levels of manifestation. Someone who is seeking greater Spiritual Wellness may often turn to a church, synagogue, mosque, temple etc., or attend a seminar, and even join a religious cult in order to satisfy their higher spiritual needs. It's highly recommended to consult an expert with a background in Pastoral Psychology about these potential options before making any final decisions regarding the fulfillment of spirituality.

What is Pastoral Psychology?
Pastoral Psychology is arguably the oldest school of psychology that studies spirituality, the practice of religion, and how they affect Human awareness (thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviors). Its roots can be traced back tens of thousands of years to the ancient practice of Shamans- the world's oldest practitioners of psychotherapy, medicine, magic and religion. As civilizations developed, magic and medicine evolved into separate disciplines. However, priests/ministers still assumed the role of providing psychotherapy and religious services. It wasn't really until the 20th century where the birth of clinical psychology and psychiatry started assuming the role of psychotherapy. Despite this fancy New Age trend, pastoral psychology still exists as a worthy study. Today, pastoral psychologists must be ordained as ministers by completing a degree in theology, divinity or philosophy (Th. D., D.D., or Ph. D.), depending on the school. It's not uncommon for pastoral psychologists to work side by side with other health practitioners in hospitals, clinics and private practice settings as chaplains or spiritual advisors.

Is Pastoral Psychology only for Christians?
No. Pastoral Psychology is open and respectful to all religious beliefs (since all come from the same source) including: Judaism, Islam, Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism as well as other native indigenous religions. The practitioners main concern is to be supportive of the clients beliefs in religion and spirituality.

How can one benefit from Pastoral Psychology?
Pastoral Psychologists offer a wide variety of services including: Meditation Therapy, Pastoral Counseling, Theocentric Therapy, and State Specific Therapy.
