My nephew has been diagnosed as having sensory-neural deafness, and was advised to use hearing aids. What would you suggest? Sensory-neural deafness is very difficult to treat and the results of treatment are difficult to predict. The outcome of any therapy depends mainly on the extent and severity of nerve damage, which is impossible to measure accurately. Our only hope is that nerve damage in this case is not entirely permanent. In order to find an answer to the question "is the damage to sensory nerves completely irreversible in this case?" we must start with 'trial therapy', using various modalities that can improve nerve function, reduce toxic nerve exposure, reduce nerve inflammation or infection, and improve bio-energetic and biochemical balance. This requires a thorough medical evaluation by our specialists, followed by 3-5 weeks of clinical therapy involving acupuncture, manual manipulation, nutritional intervention, dietary considerations, and specific detoxification protocols. These treatments are administered in accordance with the diagnostic findings. If positive changes are noted after this 'trial therapy', we may conclude that at least some of the damage to the neurological hearing apparatus is indeed reversible, and appropriate recommendations for continued care (mostly at the patient's home) will be given. If no improvement is noted, then we may assume that the damage is irreversible at this time. Although that would be extremely unfortunate, you would at least know that every attempt had been made to improve your nephew's condition, that every logical diagnostic evaluation had been performed, and that many progressive holistic assessments were provided in order to detect the possible underlying causes for his deafness.
