Colon Cancer Assessment My mother died of colon cancer and I have to have a colonoscopy done every couple of years. I sure would love not to have to go through colonoscopy if there is another way to check for cancer. You should definitely do the AMAS test, TOGETHER with a complete blood panel and perhaps a tumor marker screen (depending on the other results) to rule out the possibility of early cancer development. Colonoscopy will only demonstrate cancer in the advanced stage, when treatment options are very aggressive, dangerous, and often unsuccessful (i.e., colosigmoidostomy, colonostomy, other surgical procedures, and immune-damaging chemotherapy drugs and radiation). Most oncologists and family/internal medicine specialists are not trained in early detection and prevention of colon cancer (or other cancers), and usually are not experienced in the ordering and interpretation of diagnostic tests such as AMAS and Oncoscreen. This may compromise the potential benefits that should be gained from these scientific studies. To learn more about the implementation and interpretation of early cancer detection tests, you may contact the clinic to schedule a brief consultation. Additional Keywords: cancer diagnosis, colonoscope.
