Chinese Herbology
Mahuang (Ephedra Sinica Stapf)

Chinese herbal medicines have been proven as potent alternatives to synthetic drugs. These healing herbs have been used for thousands of years by the Chinese people to relieve disease and suffering. Specific preparations of herbal teas, liniments, inhalants and poultices have been used to remedy an incredible range of ailments (see The Treatment of Knotty Diseases). Many herbal products were shown effective, some proven by medical research, in the treatment of arthritis pain, peptic ulcers, liver disease, menopausal problems, to name a few. Others are valued as general health enhances memory boosters, concentration amplifiers, and delayers of premature aging. Some conditions, such as constipation, high blood pressure and sore muscles, are extremely common in Western societies yet respond favorably to Chinese herbal treatment. This deplorable situation is gradually changing for the better, as increasing numbers of Westerners are becoming more health conscious and less interested in toxic, synthetic chemical drugs.

In Asian as well as Western countries, traditional Chinese herbal medicine has been growing exponentially in the last decade, partially thanks to comprehensive scientific research that is taking place in the medical academies of China. In fact, members of a British medical team that visited China expressed their amazement with the achievements of Chinese herbology and went as far as recommending that Chinese medicine should be emulated and adopted by the British government.

Chinese herbal remedies are easy to obtain and prepare, and despite their effectiveness with the most simple day to day illnesses (a fact that leads to repetitive and frequent or prolonged use) they are completely safe, with extremely low toxicity, if any. This is why the public should use these remedies in the treatment of common colds, sore throats, headaches, insomnia, bronchitis, cystitis, constipation, diarrhea, and other common conditions.

Practitioners of Chinese herbology are trained in the theory and principals behind the structure of herbal formulas. Hundreds of classical formulas with common modifications are studied and fine-tuned for specific clinical presentations. Treatment strategies are explored to determine the best formula of formula variation in any given situation.

The formulas are grouped and categorized by their therapeutic action on the body, in accordance with the principles of Chinese medicine. For example, certain formulas treat Dryness, others expel Dampness, some warm interior Cold, and some harmonize or tonify. Additional groups include formulas that regulate Chi, invigorate Blood, stop bleeding, calm the spirit, expel Wind or parasites, open the orifices, reduces food stagnation, treat Phlegm, and many others.

Chinese Herbal Formulas

High quality herbal preparations are offered by our trained practitioners, after appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic approaches have been completed in conformity with the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, enhanced by modern scientific insight.

It should be noted that herbs most wildly used by Western herbalists are often comparative or identical to some Chinese herbs, a fact which underlines the importance of herbal medicine in various cultural, geographical, and traditional settings. Chinese medicine should be credited for advancing the world's knowledge of healing in the direction of things natural, by helping us understand the forces working within and outside our bodies and teaching us how they interact. Integrating this knowledge of nature into our healing system creates balance and harmony that contribute to the well-being of our internal and external universe...
