Biological Terrain is a term used to describe the underlying biochemistry of the human body. Biological Terrain practitioners are specialists in the fields of clinical nutrition, biochemistry and physiology. They are highly trained to focus not only on the symptoms that a person has, but also assess, study and monitor the underlying causes of illness and disease. They work together with their patients to make the important biochemical adjustments that help the body to restore itself naturally and to remain protected from the harmful effects of the stress, pollution, and toxins of "modern" living. The BTA test is a laboratory test that will provide valuable information about your body's biochemistry. This simple test analyzes small amounts of your blood, urine and saliva. It provides data about the current state of the building blocks of your body - your enzymes, amino acids, molecules and electrons. Your urine, saliva and blood will be analyzed right in the office through state of the art, specialized, computerized laboratory equipment. The report will help you gain a greater understanding of chemical processes deep within your body. The BTA measures values called pH, ReDox, and Resistivity. These values provide us with precise data regarding the acidity and alkalinity of your bodily fluids and tissues, the lever of functioning of enzymes in your body, your oxidative stress level (the dangers of "free radicals"), your digestive and mineral status, and insight into the function and metabolism within some organ systems. These biological measurements can alert you and your physican to the presence of certain chemical or biological stress sores that make your body more susceptible to illness. Frequently, very subtle yet potent influences can exist in a person’s system that standard laboratory tests are not equipped to detect or measure. A BTA test can help detect the presence of these influences, which include fungal infections, bacteria, viruses, pollutants, xenobiotics (environmental poisons), a lack of adequate vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, a lack of cellular oxygen, etc. Although the BTA does not diagnose disease or directly treat symptoms, it is based on scientific research and proven data, aimed at giving objective information for treating and monitoring the core cellular function and health of the body - your Biological Terrain. To maximize the test's accuracy, you will need to discontinue all supplementation 36-40 hours prior to the test. Please let us know about any medications which you are on. You will need to fast for 14-16 hours before your test. To make this easy, we recommend that you finish your evening meal by 7:00 PM the night before. During this fast, no food, water or any substance may be taken. This includes washing your face, brushing your teeth, and using lipstick, "chapstick," or anything that touches your lips or mouth area. If you must take a shower before your appointment, please make sure it is only from the neck down. This is very important, as a pure saliva sample is needed. A one quarter cup, first morning urine (midstream) sample must be brought in by you, taken anytime after 4:00 AM. Small blood and saliva samples will be taken at the office. You may bring food with you to eat immediately after the test is completed. Please consult our office for more information or if you have any questions.
